Airbnb Enhanced Cleaning

To help protect guests, we’re rolling out an industry-leading enhanced cleaning protocol in twelve countries. Developed with leading experts in medical and hospitality hygiene, it includes a five-step process, room-by-room checklists, and more.

Hosts can enroll their homes in the Enhanced Clean program through their accounts. There they will review guidelines, complete a quiz, and agree to an attestation.

Those who choose to participate will have a badge to display on their listings, indicating that they have taken stringent extra safety and sanitization measures. The company is also offering a “booking buffer,” which automatically blocks reservations for 72 hours between stays, for hosts who aren’t ready to commit to the enhanced cleaning protocol but still want to comply with Airbnb’s safety standards.

A special callout will be added to hosts’ listings in the coming days, letting guests know that their host has taken this step. This will help reassure guests, especially when they’re feeling nervous about staying in an affected area.

The company says it will continue to monitor listings that don’t comply with the enhanced cleaning standard and will take action if necessary. Additionally, hosts can opt to add a fee to their nightly rates for this service.

This extra charge is not required by law, but it can give a sense of peace of mind to your guests that you take the cleaning of their vacation rental seriously. If you don’t have a cleaning team or don’t want to hire one, it’s also an indicator of your commitment to your guest’s safety.
