Koria Kitten Riot is a Finnish band who combine the charm of indie with a dash of rock. Frontman Reikko Haase has a background in film, and that shows in the songs, as he often uses a lot of dramatic structure.

The lead single ‘The Earth Will Spin Around’ is a perfect example of this. Originally written after Reikko felt betrayed in his personal life, the song is an anthem of hope and resilience in a time of uncertainty. The track is anthemic in its blending of piano and guitar, and the anthemic sounds of the mellotron add to the sense of hopefulness.

Another standout track ‘Songs of Hope and Science’ is a song that really hits the spot for me, it’s not too heavy but there’s a real sense of purpose to it – and it reminds me that there’s always something to look forward to in life, no matter how dark things may seem. It’s a lovely and very well written song that really does make you want to get up and dance!

This is a great album, I think it really showcases what they do best. The songwriting is very solid and the vocals are beautiful, allowing Reikko to show off his talents.

‘Songs of Hope and Science’ feels very familiar to me as I love the band’s earlier work – it’s got this slightly whimsical style that pokes fun at life, but at the same time it has a genuinely positive outlook on things. It’s a very pleasant listen that can get stuck in your head for hours!
