Finnish indie-pop act koriakittenriot are not a name you may have heard of yet, but this debut album by singer-songwriter Antti Reikko is well worth checking out. The album exudes charm and is a great example of how music can be personal.
Reikko lists Elliott Smith, Neil Young, Wilco, Bright Eyes and The Flaming Lips among his influences. The band’s acoustic-led and maximalist indie-pop takes its cues from the mid-’00s, and it’s a lot of fun to listen to.
Koria Kitten Riot – Lights Out
If you were into cheerful, instrument-stuffed indie-pop in the mid-00s, you’ll find plenty to love in Koria Kitten Riot’s dazzling new album, Rich Men Poor Men Good Men. It’s got a lot of fun floaty fluff, but it also has some serious business to boot.
Featuring Antti Reikko (vocalist and guitarist for the band Johnny Superhero), Lasse Toimi, Teemu Vanska, Olli Rahkonen and Eino Anttila, KKR’s new record is a dazzlingly fun mix of psychedelia, pop, and Americana. It’s a well-executed synthesis of the latest in recording technology, resulting in an impressive sound that’s more than up to the task of capturing your attention on the dance floor.
InWhite – Dreams
Dream lives in a castle at the heart of his realm, which he maintains and changes frequently at his will. He reacts strongly to perceived insult and rebuffs those who try to take advantage of him, although he is generally very kind towards others and takes pride in his ability to keep the Dreaming alive, as well as in the people that come into it. He is a heroic figure and is sometimes slow to understand humor and insensitive, but is also a very self-obsessed and self-destructive character. He is often a victim of his own past, as is Mervyn Pumpkinhead, who assists him with physical maintenance of the Dreaming.
Fazekas explains that the reduced frontal and central activity that Siclari observed in white dreams could be a result of a diminished level of conscious awareness, like watching a TV with a volume set too low. This may explain why participants could not recall their white dreams later, as the neural activity at night would not be enough to encode information into a memory.
