Koria Kitten Riot (KKR) are a Helsinki, Finland band fronted by Antti Reikko. They have a very distinctive sound, much like the earlier works of bands such as Bright Eyes, Death Cab for Cutie and The Shins.
They are a very talented group of musicians with a good grasp of songwriting. They are very well suited to the genre of Indie-Pop.
Their style is akin to bands such as the Shins, Decemberists, Annuals and Grandaddy. Their music is very giddy, instrument-stuffed and a lot of fun to listen to.
The songs are lighthearted, and sometimes melancholic as well, but they all have a certain charm. Their lyrics are also very thoughtful and point out all the flaws that humanity is prone to, whilst delivering an uplifting message of hope.
This is a very enjoyable album that combines the musical aspects of Americana, indie rock and psychedelia with some gentle folk tones. It is a very positive record, which is especially important at this time of year.
‘The Earth Will Spin Around’ is the lead single and it shows that they are very talented singer-songwriters, writing songs that will make you want to dance and sing along at the same time. The track features an anthemic blending of piano and guitar with three-part harmonies and the messed up sounds of mellotron.
‘Rich Men Poor Men Good Men’ is the third album by Finnish indie pop quintet Koria Kitten Riot. It is their first full-band release and it was created after KKR singer Antti Reikko was told to “work f*****g hard, be honest and make ballsy decisions.”
