Finnish indie pop quintet Koria Kitten Riot are back with a new album. ‘Songs of Hope and Science’ is released 27th January via VILD Recordings.

KKR are a band from Helsinki, Finland who play a happy mix of alternative pop and Americana with singer/songwriter influences. Fronted by Antti Reikko, the band have sited The Flaming Lips, Elliott Smith and Wilco amongst their influences.

Reikko has been working as a film writer for the last couple of years, and the music on the band’s third album is based around his experiences of this. He said: “It was a really difficult time, but I was told to work f*****g hard, be honest and make ballsy decisions. That really helped me a lot.

The album is infused with the same optimism as Reikko’s film work, but with a more indie rock and psychedelic influence. Lead single ‘The Earth Will Spin Around’, the first track on the album, intertwines hope and science.

In a press release, Reikko explained: “The song was written when I had some personal issues and it made me feel very much at ease to think of them in a global perspective.” It’s a lovely song, if a little bit repetitive in its structure, but with a wonderful melody and a great anthemic blending of piano and guitar.

This is a band to keep an eye on. They’ve already been touring relentlessly since the release of their debut, but they’re also in the final stages of mixing and mastering their next LP.
