A new Finnish indie-pop band that is proving to be an excellent addition to the thriving scene of guitar-pop, indie rock, and other forms of acoustic-led music. The project of singer-songwriter Antti Reikko, koriakittenriot is a giddy, instrument-stuffed romp through pop melodies and harmonies that remind us of Bright Eyes, Elliott Smith, and Sufjan Stevens.
Lost in Music (Solmu Records, 2010)
On his debut solo album, KKR’s lead singer-songwriter Antti Reikko does just about everything himself: songwriting, singing, acoustic guitar, synthesizer, mandolin, piano, glockenspiel, harmonica and trombone. He recorded the album in his bedroom using GarageBand and a Behringer mixer. Drum tracks were provided by Johnny Superhero drummer Tuomas Lankinen, and bassist Matti Vasanen played a small role as well.
The Lows & The Highs (Solmu Records, 2011)
Another new release from KKR comes in the form of this melancholic song from their second full-length album. The Lows & The Highs features songs about the past and the future, as well as about life’s joys and sorrows.
An Anthem From The 80’s (Solmu Records, 2012)
This song from KKR’s second full-length album, The Lows & The Highs, is a melancholic look back on long-gone happy times. Reikko’s lyrics are tender, and he demonstrates a great deal of emotion through his lyrical writing. The track also features a very good piano performance. The lilting acoustic melody is an excellent contrast to the more grandiose arrangements, making this one of the best songs on the record.
