Blacksburg, Virginia, is an incorporated town in Montgomery County. As of the 2020 census, its population was 44,826. While the city’s influx of students is the town’s main draw, there are many other great things to do in the area. For those who enjoy culture, there is the Lyric Theatre and Cassell Coliseum. Visitors can also see the Beliveau Estate and Museum of Geosciences.

Lyric Theatre

The Lyric Theatre in Blacksburg Virginia is a restored 1930s movie house that hosts indie and first-run films. You can even catch a show here and enjoy live music. You’ll love the unique ambiance and quaint charm of the old movie house. The theatre is also open for special events.

The Lyric Theatre is a community center as well as a movie theater. In addition to screening films, the theatre hosts live performances and educational programs. The theatre also has a restored lobby and an old-fashioned ticket booth. The Lyric also has plenty of seating and a classic-looking stage.

The Lyric Theatre was designed by architect Louis Phillipe Smithy. The building’s design combines elements of Spanish Colonial Revival and Art Deco. The parapet of the theater features the traditional masks of tragedy and comedy. These masks were installed in the mid-1950s, but were later removed because of safety concerns. The masks were later replaced during a renovation of the theater in the late 1990s.

The lodge has changed its focus from water conservation to terrestrial activities. Scientists once flocked to the lodge to study local watersheds. It has since changed its name to reflect a new focus on tourism. Nevertheless, it still incorporates the lake’s ecology into the tourism experience.

There is no shortage of outdoor activities in the Blacksburg area. During the fall, you can enjoy the town’s premier craft beer festival, the Brew Do. The event features local and regional craft breweries. The event also features live entertainment and cooking demonstrations.

Hiking is another excellent activity at Mountain Lake Lodge. There are a number of short trails that are under two miles in length. One of them, Bald Knob, is an out-and-back trail that features panoramic views at 4,000 feet. The trail starts behind Mountain Lake Lodge and takes less than 20 minutes.

Brew Do

There are plenty of things to do in Blacksburg, Virginia. For one, the Blacksburg Museum and Cultural Foundation is a cultural institution that promotes cultural awareness and community events. From blues and BBQ to black tie galas, you can attend any number of cultural events. Other activities include visiting Alexander Black House, a museum that showcases tools and seed catalogs.

The town is also home to a Farmers Market on Wednesday and Saturday, which is open year-round. The Farmers Market is a fun way to meet locals and sample local food. The downtown area of Blacksburg also features a variety of local shops and restaurants. There is something for everyone, whether it is shopping, eating, or just hanging out.

Another Blacksburg activity is the annual Blacksburg Brew Do, a beer festival that features more than 100 different brews. Craft beers from across the mid-Atlantic region are featured at the festival, as is live music. A performance by American Idol finalist Dan Marshall will be a highlight of the event. The performance will take place on the Moss Arts Center Main Stage, with the town’s historic blacksmith’s cabin as a backdrop.
